Martha S. Manning, 79, of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 18, 2024.

She was raised in East Ridge, where she met her husband of 40 years, Max David Manning, and started their family. Martha spent most of her career in the grocery industry, retiring from Food Lion in 2002.

She was an artist and enjoyed writing poetry, painting, and spending time with her family. Martha was an avid shooter and won the Tennessee State I. P. S. C. Women’s Pistol Championship in 1984. She enjoyed deer hunting and loved the outdoors.

Martha will be greeted with open arms by her husband, her parents, Fred and Margie Schlosshan; son-in-law, Tim McGhee; and sisters, JoAnne Zimmerman, and Gail Fike.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughters, Sheri Manning, and Toni Manning McGhee; sons, Max David Manning Jr., Richard (Kristi) Manning, Robert (Tracy) Manning; grandchildren, Eric Rupp, Goose (Tressa) Manning, Drew Manning, Taylor (Jonathan) Martin, Andrew (Macie) Manning, T. J. McGhee Jr., Shelby (Gavin) Chambers, and Allie Manning; great-grandchildren, Charlie, Wilson, Asa, and Ellison; and her brother, Fred (Treva) Schlosshan.

A Celebration of Martha’s Life will be conducted at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home at 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, with Dr. Cedric Seay officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 24, from 5-8 p.m. at North Chapel and on Thursday from 2 p.m. until service time.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
