Ruby Falls hosts the friendliest barbecue competition in the South on April 20. Battle Below the Clouds benefits Lana’s Love Foundation, a Chattanooga nonprofit with the mission of providing fun, year-round activities for local kids fighting cancer and their families.

The event, free and open to the public, features teams of barbecue enthusiasts in five categories: Pork Butt Champion, Ribs Champion, Just Wingin’ it Champion, Grand Champion, and the Jim Brewer People’s Choice Award.

Live bluegrass music and activities are planned throughout the event. Activities include a face painter, caricature artist and games. The Jay Brooks band provides tunes from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Lou Wamp & the Bluetastics take the stage from 2-4:30 pm.

With tradition, spectators can win 5-star door prizes, including Atlanta Braves tickets and a smokeless fire pit. Door prize winners randomly selected from entries and announced during the award ceremony.

Vendors include Chattanooga food truck, Choo Choo Express BBQ, serving barbecue for purchase and the Bitter Alibi will be on-site with beer and beverages. They will be available from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. or while supplies last.

All event festivities will take place at Ruby Falls in the Bob White Car Park from 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and no tickets are required for admission. Spectators interested in visiting the cavern can visit RubyFalls.com. Cave Walk tickets must be purchased in advance online.
