Mocs Golf Set To Host Chattanooga Classic At Council Fire

  • Thursday, April 4, 2024
Home Sweet Home. The Chattanooga Mocs women’s golf team hosts the Chattanooga Classic at Council Fire Golf Club. The tournament tees off Sunday and is 54 holes playing through Tuesday with free admission.

The familiar quintet of Makenzie Cooper, Violeta Fernandez-Tagle, Giulia Foresta, Nieves Martin and Kera Healey look to capture the squad’s second title of the year against a tough field. Carmen Belmonte, Alexis Daniel and Imogen Rafferty are playing as individuals.

"We are looking forward to competing again after a few weeks off," Coach Colette Murray began.
"It is nice that we can sleep in our own beds and compete at the same time. Council Fire is in such great shape, and we are so lucky that we get to call that one of our home courses. The membership is so welcoming, the management is great to work with and the owner, Mr. Kinsey is so supportive of UTC and of women's sports.

"Once again, we have a strong field with three teams in the top 50 and a number in the top 100. We have teams coming in from all over the country because of the reputation that we have managed to build about our event. We hope to have a good crowd and feel like we have the home 'course' advantage."

The last time out was 17 days ago with a fourth-place finish in the Spring Break Shootout. The last five events saw the ladies finish third, third, fourth, FIRST and fourth. Cooper has two wins on the year, while Fernandez-Tagle has four consecutive top 10s. In fact, during this exciting run all five starters have at least one top 10.

The tournament opens Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. Twenty-two pairings go off with seven featuring Mocs between 10:20-11:26 a.m., all going off No. 1. Live scoring and tee times are linked above.
