Gregory Jay Carter
Gregory Jay Carter passed away on June 23, 2024 at the age of 70, surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born on July 5, 1953 and was preceded in death by his mother, Vera Mae (Polly) Carter, his father J.B. Carter, his brother Nickie G., and his niece Monica Long.
He leaves behind his wife, Kathy Smith Carter, and three siblings, Judy Moore, Tony Carter, and Cynthia Carter. Although he did not have children, he had a special relationship with his nieces: Tasha Carter Lankford, Hollie Moore Smith, Jessica Nicole (Cody) Jolly, Ginger Headrick, Ashley V. Henderson, Emily Vechinski, Jenny Vechinski, and Kristi Vechinski, as well as his nephews: Sam J. Long, Chase Clark, Nathan Moore, Jonathan Headrick, and Samuel (Sammy) Weems.
He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, graduated from Scottsboro High School in 1971, and obtained an education degree from North East State Junior College and Florence University. Greg was an elementary school physical education teacher and Middle School math teacher prior to his retirement. He coached basketball, volleyball and wrestling for much of his career. Greg was passionate about Alabama football, loved to spend time with friends and cherished playing with his fur babies.
A Celebration of Greg’s Life will be held on July 5 from 4-6:30 p.m. at Kennamer Cove Trading Post, 8327 Cathedral Caverns Hwy., Woodville, Al. 35766. We welcome all of his friends and family to wear their Alabama gear and come celebrate the life of this special man!
In lieu of flowers, a simple card will do!
