Virginia Lee Carrier Meredith
On July 9, 2024, Virginia Lee Carrier Meredith finished her race of more than 102 years, and as she crossed the finish line at Heaven’s gate, she heard her Lord Jesus say, “well done, good and faithful servant!”
Virginia was born in Bluff City, Tn., on Feb. 2, 1922, to Fred H. and Verda Carrier. She graduated from Bluff City High School and East Tennessee State University. She married Willard Meredith on March 27, 1941, and they became deeply rooted in the community. She taught second grade at Bluff City Elementary School for 34 years while he taught vocational agriculture at Bluff City High School. Together they were active members of Bluff City Baptist Church and later, Piney Flats Baptist Church. God blessed them with two children Lynn, and Frederick. After the deaths of Willard and Frederick, Va., moved to Alexian Village in Signal Mountain, Tn. There she once again became deeply connected to her community, developing close friendships with other retirees who had lived across the United States. She became a member of Wayside Presbyterian Church (PCA). The pastor of Wayside remarked how joyful Virginia was to be a member of a church fellowship and how amazed she was to be loved by Jesus, her Lord and Savior.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Verda Carrier, husband, Willard Meredith, son, Frederick, sisters, JoAnn Dunlap, Marilyn Miller, and brother, Phil Carrier.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Bennett (Willis), grandchildren, Scott Bennett (Karen), Mark Bennett, Kristen Bishop (Joel), Joel Meredith, Joshua Meredith (Laura), Justin Meredith (Leah), 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks well wishers to consider making a donation to the building fund at Wayside Presbyterian Church, 2502 Fairmount Park, Signal Mountain, Tn. 37377.
A memorial service will be held at the Bluff City Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home on Saturday, July 20, beginning at 10 a.m., followed by a graveside service at Morning View Cemetery. Her grandson, Scott Bennett, will be officiating.
