Chattanooga volleyball is announcing the addition of yet another international signee to the team’s 2024 roster, as head coach Julie Torbett Thomas revealed the signing of Cansu Kornosor of Turkey on Wednesday.
Kornosor joins the UTC ranks with four years of elgilibility remaining in her collegiate career, having spent her most recent season playing in the Turkish Women’s 2nd League with her club Semt77 Yalovaspor. Kornosor also played at the high school level for Robert College in Instanbul, and will serve as a defensive specialist/libero for the Mocs.
“We are thrilled that Cansu, a fierce competitor with a determined spirit, will be joining the team this fall,” Coach Torbett Thomas said.
“After attending an American school in Turkey, she set her sights on finding a program to play for in the United States.
Cansu has trained at a high level for volleyball and is also very fluent in English. We are confident that she will add depth to our backrow and benefit greatly from learning alongside one of the best, Paige Gallentine.”
Kornosor’s most recent club season saw help lead Semt77 Yalovaspor to a 9-3 record in Group 9 of the Turkish 2nd League. Finishing in second place in their group, her and her club would ultimately clinch a spot in the 2nd League Playoffs where they would advance to the Quarterfinals before their season came to a close.
Prior to her time playing for Semt77, Kornosor spent two seasons playing within the club system of Sariyer Belediyesi. Her first season with the club came in 2021-22, having been a part of the club’s U20 roster. In 2022-23 Kornosor was then promoted to the Sariyer Beledivesi 2nd Division team, where they would end the year with a record of 3-6.
Born November 12, 2004, Cansu is the daughter of Asu (mother) and Tolga (father) Kornosor. Additionally, Kornosor has one younger brother: Yilmaz Batu Kornosor. She is currently undecided on what major she plans on pursuing upon her arrival at UTC.
