The CSLA soccer team took home their third consecutive win with a 5-3 triumph over Hixson. After back-to-back wins against Ooltewah and Sequatchie County, the Lady Eagles would have to go face Hixson on the Lady Wildcats' home turf. Hixson opened up the score line withing the first minute of the game with a goal from Mya Reisenauer. However, with several great performances, especially from CSLA’s Mallory Commander, they came back quickly and won it. Commander had this to say after the game:
“I think it is really rewarding. When I go to my club season I don’t get to shine as much, but here I get help other players and allow them to grow. And I get to show the growth that I have had outside of school.” Commander stated, “I think we are really looking to grow and set the bar even higher than last season. We didn’t get as far as we hoped to last season, and I think this year we are trying to make it much farther”
After Hixson open up the scoring, the momentum went towards CSLA. They weren’t worried about the goal in the slightest. CSLA picked up possession in the middle of the field and put in two back-to-back goals. The first from Carys Mech who would quickly tie it up, and the second from Ansley Morris who would end up having a great night as well with a goal and an assist. CSLA found their rhythm and kept it for the remainder of the match.
The second half was filled with more drama than the first with goals coming in left and right. The first was from CSLA midfielder Mallory Commander from distance to make it 3-0. Seconds later Lilah Dotson would immediately follow with another goal. To finalize the scoring for CSLA, Naomi Bissell would score after an unfortunate deflection of the keeper to land at her feet and make it 5-1. CSLA’s Dotson spoke about the performance of her team after the game.
“I think as a captain I need to encourage my players that even if we get down one,” Dotson said, “we can still score more. As long as we work together as a team and don’t let that affect us mentally. If we stay mentally strong and physically strong, we can score more and be up. I think we are going to grow as we get older and become a stronger team. I think we will make it to more successful things and more tournaments.”
Despite having been down by four with only a few minutes remaining, Hixson was not done playing. Mya Reisenauer seemed to have enough with CSLA controlling the ball and decided to take things into her own hands. Withing minutes Reisenauer would make it 5-3 by scoring two beautiful goals. The first from a freekick close to thirty yards out from which she would float over the keeper and in. The second was right place right time for Reisenauer. The keeper had stepped out of position and Reisenauer took advantage to sneak a quick goal. she spoke after her impressive performance and said this:
“I didn’t live here for a while,” said Reisenauer. “I just moved here. I feel like the challenges are just getting used to the team and we have come a long way from where we were. I feel like influence them just as much as they make me better and this season we are going to grow more and more until the end. I definitely think this is where I want to be at, but I think I can grow and push myself to get closer and to not be afraid to shoot. No matter what foot it is on, just kick it in.”
