William Donald Roberson
William Donald Roberson, 84, of Whitwell, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2024, at his home in Hixson. He was surrounded by family when he passed peacefully.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Donald became a member of Whitwell First Baptist Church on June 20, 1971, where he was later ordained as deacon and served as the Sunday School director for many years.
Mr. Roberson was an employee of CSX Railroad and retired as a switchman in 2001, having worked for 32 years at CSX in Chattanooga, Tn. He also served in the US Army at Fort Carson, Colorado Springs, Co.
Donald was heavily involved in the local community. He was a leader, coach and mentor for many young men involved in the Dixie Youth Baseball program in Whitwell. He also was an umpire for TSSAA and college baseball teams.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Dorothy Roberson; brothers, Wayne Roberson, Tommy Roberson, Jim Roberson and sister, Jo Moore.
He is survived by Emma Lee Layne Roberson, loving wife of 60 years; sons, Donald Wayne Roberson (wife, Julie) and Michael Shane Roberson (wife, Allison); Grandson, Caleb Roberson (wife, Lauren), Granddaughters, Piper Roberson Phillips (husband Alex), Baylee Roberson and Tessa Roberson, Great Grandson, Duke Roberson. Sister; Deborah Roberson; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and loved ones.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Aug.12, at 6 p.m. (CST) at Whitwell First Baptist Church, 1970 N. Main St. Whitwell, TN 37397 with Pastor Jerry Massey and Pastor Mathew Daniel officiating.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Aug. 12, from 2-6 p.m. (CST) at Whitwell First Baptist Church, prior to the funeral service.
Mr. Roberson will be laid to rest on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 11 a.m. (EST) at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors conducted.
The pallbearers will be Zack England, Mike Kornas, Alex Phillips, Jason Pursley, Joe White, Taylor White.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Higdon, Roy Hubbard, Steve Kilgore, Todd Layne and Jimmy Thompson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Whitwell First Baptist Church, 1970 N. Main St. Whitwell, TN 37397.
