Paul Patterson, a native of Detroit, Michigan, has been named the sole finalist for the position of Whitfield County Fire Chief, following the retirement of long-serving Chief Ed O’Brien in June 2024.
Mr. Patterson brings a distinguished career in fire service leadership and operations management. He is currently pursuing a master of science in Fire Executive Leadership and Emergency Services Management from Columbia Southern University and holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Fire Administration. His extensive certifications include NPQ Firefighter I & II, NPQ Hazmat Awareness
and Operations, NPQ Fire Inspector I, and National Registered Emergency Medical Technician.
Throughout his career, Patterson has developed and implemented critical fire safety programs, led fire suppression and rescue operations, and directed comprehensive training initiatives for firefighting personnel. His leadership roles include serving as vice president of the Lewis County Board of Fire Chiefs and vice chairman of the Lewis County Emergency Planning Committee.
The Board of Commissioners are expected to officially appoint Patterson as the new fire chief at a
Special Called Meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 5:30 p.m., at the Whitfield County Courthouse.
