Mayor Kelly humbled himself and chose a Chattanoogan to lead the Chattanooga Police Department. The City Council rewarded the mayor’s humility with a unanimous confirmation of the chief.
Praise Jesus.
As one of his first official acts, I hope Chief Chambers will take a look at returning to the policy that patrol officers investigate all car wrecks.
Currently, the police do not investigate all car wrecks, resulting in witnesses not being interviewed and responsibility not being determined. As a result, more lawsuits are being filed and more insurance defense lawyers are being paid by insurance companies. Increasing insurance costs usually means an increase in our car insurance premiums.
But if we return to the good old days, police would investigate all car wrecks and determine responsibility, without an expensive lawsuit being filed.
It would reduce our insurance premiums, saving taxpayers money.
Reinstatement of that policy will also result in getting criminals off our streets. I believe every police officer has a story about a routine fender-bender leading to an arrest of a driver with outstanding criminal warrants and the confiscation of illegal firearms.
So if Chief Chambers returns to the policy of investigating all car wrecks, it will save taxpayers money and reduce crime.
I hope Chief Chambers shows the same humility as his boss and reinstates the policy of the police investigating all car wrecks.
