The City of Dalton will celebrate the hope of recovery from drug addiction on Friday as the Georgia Recovers Bus Tour visits City Hall. The bus tour is visiting 63 Georgia cities in honor of the month of September being declared National Recovery Month. Mayor Annalee Sams will welcome the tour to City Hall with the reading of a proclamation and a celebration from 3-4 p.m. Friday.
The Georgia Recovers Bus Tour is an official State of Georgia National Recovery Month event funded by Commissioner Kevin Tanner at the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities and supported by the Georgia General Assembly Working Group on Addiction and Recovery.
The bus tour stop is free and open to the public.
State leaders will highlight local peers and resources helping with addiction recovery, families impacted by addiction and allies who support recovery.
According to tour organizers, drug overdoses are the number one cause of death in America, and Georgia, for people ages 18-45. On average, there are 200 overdoses a day in the United States. Addiction is a serious problem - but the good news is that recovery is real, and it's possible.
Organizers say there are more than 900,000 people who are in recovery from addiction in Georgia.
The tour stop is intended to show the community of Dalton supports those who are working toward recovery and also their families.
