Morning Pointe’s Lantern In Collegedale Completes Remodel

  • Tuesday, January 14, 2025

The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence, Collegedale, has officially completed its remodel.

Morning Pointe Senior Living, the local senior living company which operates the memory care community, designed the new look to help the building "feel more home-like, comfortable and inviting for residents and their families, as well as for associates."

Upgrades include: new flooring in the lobby, dining area and living room; all new wall coverings; new furniture; all new art; all new window treatments; all new themed activity areas designed to touch on positive memories; and new historic mural and photos.

“The living environment is very important for people of all ages, but especially so for seniors living with Alzheimer’s or other dementias,” said Sarabeth Wilkins.

“Our community has a wonderful legacy of providing compassionate memory care for seniors in an intimate, family-like space. These upgrades really make our community feel warmer and more modern, which is something our residents and their families can feel when they walk in.”

The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence, Collegedale is located at 9300 Messinger Lane, off of Apison Pike near The Commons. It is a secure and single-level structure for resident safety. Associates are specially trained in Alzheimer’s and dementia. Services include: nursing, clinical or care staff available 24 hours a day; meals with dietician oversight and an emphasis on fresh, local produce; a full life enrichment activity program; engaging community partnerships; and on-site physical, occupational and speech therapy services.

In addition, the community utilizes several dementia care approaches to help residents live their
best lives: The Best Friends Approach, which allows caregivers to connect and communicate with residents effectively, as a friend would; Teepa Snow’s Positive Approach to Care program, creating a caring and nurturing environment; and The Meaningful Day program, which provides daily structure around residents’ individual interests to help residents feel safe and secure.

“All of the workers work well together and really care about each individual,” said Carla Stevenson, daughter of one of the residents at The Lantern. “They are constantly interacting with the residents, helping them transfer from one location to another, sitting next to them, hugging them and reassuring them if they are having a difficult day. They do fun activities with the residents and help them enjoy crafting and games like bingo or cornhole.”
