Sybil Hughes Cannon
Sybil Hughes Cannon, beloved wife, devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, went to be with our Lord at the age of 95, on Thursday, January 16, 2025.
Sybil was born in Gastonia, NC on June 9, 1929. She moved to Murphy, NC at a young age. Sybil graduated with honors from Murphy High School, then attended Asheville Academy. Moving back to Murphy, she began a 32-year career with AT&T. She was transferred to Chattanooga where she met her husband of 53 years.
Sybil was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Cannon, who lovingly called her “his Miss Murphy,” her mother, Winona McMillan, several dear aunts, uncles, cousins, and also, Blackie, her miniature pincher, whom she loved dearly.
Sybil is survived by her son, Mark (Jamie), her grandchildren, Matthew (Valerie), Jeffrey (Tara), and Emily, great-grandchildren, Kailey, Krystian, Dakota, and Taliesin, her niece Melissa (Roger) Holder, and cousins and their families.
Sybil was an active member of Calvary Bible Church for over 40 years. She loved her church dearly and was grateful for all the love, visits, calls, food, and cards from her church family.
The family will receive friends on Monday, Jan. 20, 2025, from 3-5 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 5 p.m. in the Coulter Chapel of the Lane Funeral Home with Dr. William Henry officiating. Graveside services will be on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 10:30 a.m. at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
