Erlanger Orthopaedic residents collectively scored in the 95th percentile on the most recent American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Orthopaedic In-Training Examination.
"This reinforces the success of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine – Chattanooga orthopaedic surgery residency program," officials said. "The AAOS Orthopaedic In-Training Examination is a proctored exam administered each year to orthopaedic residency programs. The examination serves to provide evidence of an orthopaedic surgeon’s scope of knowledge throughout training.
Residency programs use this exam to monitor performance at the individual and programmatic levels to support orthopaedic resident education through study, research, discussion, review, and assessment."
“We are extremely proud of our orthopaedic residents for scoring in the 95th percentile on the annual orthopedic in-training this year,” said Dr. Jeremy Bruce, orthopaedic surgeon, professor and chair of the department of orthopaedic surgery. “We recognize all the hard work of our residents and faculty as we work as a team with UTHSC and Erlanger to help train future doctors to care for our community.”
Officials said, "2024 marked a half-century partnership between the University of Tennessee College of Medicine – Chattanooga and Erlanger. The orthopaedic surgery residency program was established in 1988 and has graduated more than 80 surgeons. Ten of these resident graduates are now orthopaedic surgeons with Erlanger Orthopaedics. Now, the program consists of 15 orthopaedic surgery residents and 20 Erlanger physicians who serve as faculty."
