Chattanooga Tree Commission Announces Arbor Day Celebration

  • Monday, February 24, 2025

The Chattanooga Tree Commission and the City of Chattanooga’s Urban Forestry Program (Department of Public Works) are observing Chattanooga’s 36th Arbor Day Celebration on March 1 at the Washington Hills Community Center at 4628 Oakwood Dr. This year also marks the City’s 35th year with Tree City USA status from the Arbor Day Foundation.

This is a volunteer tree planting event, planned with the assistance of the City’s Department of Community Development and Department of Parks & Outdoors, and Washington Hills Neighborhood Association.

The Arbor Day Foundation notes that “Neighborhood trees have shown the ability to reduce stress, improve overall health and development in children, and encourage physical activity.”

Volunteers will plant 36 container-grown trees on the grounds and along Oakwood Dr.

All ages are encouraged to attend the event. Because of the size of the trees to be planted, planting work will be limited to volunteers 14 years old and up.

The event will begin at 9 a.m. and will be followed by an Arbor Day recognition at 11:30 a.m. Local and state officials will be present to mark the occasion and to recognize Chattanooga’s status as a Tree City USA for the 35th year. Snacks and refreshments will be available and the event will wrap up at 12 p.m.

Volunteers are encouraged to sign up in advance on the Chattanooga Parks & Outdoors volunteer page, accessed at https://tinyurl.com/mrafe55c. We hope the community can come out and enjoy a beautiful Arbor Day!
