James Warren McDougal passed away on February 1, 2025, at the age of 92.

He was born in Mansfield, Ohio, on Nov. 11, 1932, and was the only son of the five children born to Dalton and Thelma (Willet) McDougal. He was married to Percilla (Pat) McDougal for 71 years and she was at his bedside when he passed away.

Jim was a corporal in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, stationed in Berlin, Germany. When he returned from service, he had several occupations. He learned the electrical trade by correspondence courses he took while operating a first aid clinic during the construction of the Campbell Soup plant in Napoleon, Ohio. He continued his work experience at United Can Company and H. Pole Electric Company. The family moved to Toledo, Ohio, and later to Ooltewah, where he worked for 23 years as an electrical foreman for McKee Foods Corp. Shortly after he retired, he learned he had colon cancer and several years later was diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia. He was a long-term survivor of both cancers and spent most of his time during this period doing woodworking and raising daylilies.

A lifelong member of the Seventh-day Adventist church, Jim was a family man and mentor. He was a Master Guide, directed two Pathfinder Clubs and took his family camping regularly. He was also proud of his Scottish heritage. He had served as the Southeast Regional Commissioner for the Clan MacDougall Society of North America and was an avid Scottish Country Dancer, hosting dance classes in his barn for many years. As a man of faith, he was the first elder of several Seventh-day Adventist Churches and was giving spiritual counsel almost until his death.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Helen Gebert and Geneva Smith.

Jim is survived by his wife, Pat McDougal, four sons and three daughters-in-law, Todd (Renita) McDougal, Tim McDougal, Terry (Jennifer) McDougal, and Troy (Barbie) McDougal, and three grandsons, Eric McDougal, Martin McDougal, and Oliver McDougal. He is also survived by two sisters, Florence Dickinson and Alice Grove.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23, at Bowman Hills Seventh Day Adventist Church. A private interment will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
