Hamilton County Commission Deeds Land To Chattanooga Room In The Inn

  • Wednesday, February 5, 2025

The Hamilton County Commission approved a resolution to deed property, totaling approximately 3.5 acres, for the future expansion of Chattanooga Room in the Inn (CRITI). The land, located adjacent to CRITI’s current facility at 230 North Highland Park Ave., will support the organization’s mission to provide safe shelter and services for women and children experiencing homelessness.

The Hamilton County Commission recognizes the importance of this expansion and has deemed the transfer of this property to CRITI as a significant benefit to the citizens of Hamilton County. Chattanooga Room in the Inn currently serves over 100 women and children each year, and with the shelter consistently at full capacity, it must turn away an average of 60 individuals per month due to space limitations. The expansion will allow CRITI to extend its services and support more families in need.

“We are doing our due diligence to ensure that this expansion project is successful and meets the needs of our community,” said Taylor Hixson, executive director of Chattanooga Room in the Inn. “We are currently conducting a planning study to develop a strategic plan to build a larger facility on this donated property, so we can better serve women and children experiencing homelessness.”

Ms. Hixson also expressed gratitude for the county leaders who have supported this initiative. “We are grateful for compassionate and intentional county leaders who took the time to visit our facility, witness the need firsthand, and meet the incredible women and children we serve. On a personal note, I am proud to live in Hamilton County, where our leaders are dedicated to improving the lives of residents, ensuring that no one is left behind, and making sure families have a safe place to call home and the opportunity to reach their full potential.”

The Chattanooga Room in the Inn team will continue its planning efforts to create a facility that will allow for the expansion of essential services. More information on the project and ways to support CRITI’s mission will be shared as plans develop.
