Stetson rallied in the bottom of the seventh with four runs to claim a 5-4 win over the Chattanooga softball team in the final game of the Frank Griffin Classic in DeLand, Fla.
With two outs and bases loaded, the Hatters sent a shot into the outfield to score two runners, capping off a four-run seventh inning.
The Mocs had nine hits in 30 at bats with one double. Olivia Lipari went 1-for-4 with a double and led the Mocs with three RBI. Presley Williamson went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Kailey Snell was 2-for-4. Peja Goold struck out four in her second start.
The Mocs got off to an early start scoring two runs in each of the first two innings.
Snell reached on an infield single to start the game and advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches. Camryn Cernuto walked to put runners at the corner. Lipari’s hit to short was sent to second to get Cernuto out, but the Hatters were unable to complete the double play and Snell gave Chattanooga a 1-0 early lead.
Still in the first and with two outs and two on, designated player Presley Williamson drove a screamer up the middle to score Lipari to put the Mocs up 2-0 before Stetson made it to the plate.
Raven Jones and Zoe Wright started the second inning with back-to-back singles. Cernuto grounded out and the runners advanced, putting both into scoring position.
Lipari laced a double to left center scoring Jones and Wright to make it a 4-0 game.
Chattanooga kept the Hatters scoreless through four-and-a-third innings before getting their first runner across the plate. Two Stetson runners were stranded in the sixth, but five hits in the seventh got the win for the Hatters who went 5-0 in their own tournament.
The Mocs closed out the weekend at 2-3 with wins on the first day over Fairleigh Dickinson (8-0/5) and Binghamton (4-3).
