Siskin Hospital for Physical Rehabilitation has launched an intensive solar power initiative, being the first hospital in the state to harness solar energy for facility operations.
At peak operation, the 1,200+ solar panels installed on the roof of Siskin Hospital’s downtown Chattanooga campus offset between 20-30 percent of energy consumption. This significant decrease not only lowers operation costs, allowing the organization to invest the savings in other areas of the hospital, but encourages good stewardship of the city’s resources, said officials.
“Siskin Hospital has been a staple in the Chattanooga community for over 35 years," said Matthew Gibson, Ph.D., FACHE, president and CEO of Siskin Hospital. "We want to ensure we are living out our motto 'Caring People. Changing Lives.' in every aspect of the organization, and that includes our sustainability efforts."
Over the past several years, many sustainability efforts have been put in place to make Siskin Hospital a more eco-friendly organization including: switching to LED and motion sensor lights; composting food waste; switching to compostable single use food containers in the cafeteria; and adding recycling bins to every area of the hospital.
