The Ringgold Playhouse will open its spring production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play, ‘Proof’ this weekend for a five-performance run at the historic Ringgold Depot.
Now in the company’s 12th full season, TRP officials say they’re excited for the opportunity to revive this powerful show after producing it 10 years ago in 2015.
“We’re extremely excited about this show,” said TRP Executive Director Adam Cook. “Our director, Renee Lierow, and stage manager James Miller have done a tremendous job putting this production together and we’re excited to finally share it with our audiences. The show was a huge hit in 2015, so we’re there’s a lot of excitement about this new version with a new vision.”
Mr. Cook added that he directed the show the first time around, but there was an emphasis on having a new cast, director, and production team for this incarnation of David Auburn’s prized work.
“It’s great to have a new generation of actors stepping into these great roles and telling a story with so much heart and importance,” said Mr. Cook.
Review for the play:
On the eve of her twenty-fifth birthday, Catherine, a troubled young woman played by Haylee Meyer, has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable father, a famous mathematician (Adam Cook). Now, following his death, she must deal with her own volatile emotions; the arrival of her estranged sister, Claire (Sarah Green); and the attentions of Hal (Christopher Cooper), a former student of her fathers’ who hopes to find valuable work in the 103 notebooks that her father left behind. Over the long weekend that follows, a burgeoning romance and the discovery of a mysterious notebook draw Catherine into the most difficult problem of all: How much of her father’s madness—or genius—will she inherit?
“It’s just a tremendous story and a great piece of theatre,” said Ms. Lierow. “We try to tell meaningful stories on our stage, and sometimes a show comes together with the right people at the right time and it’s magic.”
Under the direction of Ms. Lierow and stage management of Mr. Miller, he cast features TRP veterans Haylee Meyer, Christopher Cooper and Adam Cook, as well as newcomer Sarah Green making her TRP debut. Company member Keean Enriquez-Sexton is serving as the show’s Assistant Director.
