History was made on Wednesday, as Skyuka Hall School will send its first graduate to a university on an athletic scholarship. Graduating senior, Logan Smith, has committed to attend Carson-Newman University in the fall, where he will join the track team as a pole vaulter.
Carson-Newman coach Sam Cleek reached out to Logan after Smith set a personal record of 14’ 1”. Cleek has a two-year plan to get Logan ready for Nationals. Logan would love to be part of the 2028 U.S. Olympic team. Logan has been vaulting only two years, and has made incredible progress in that short time. He is currently ranked 9th in the State of Tennessee, 1st in his division, and 1st in the area. He has qualified for State three of the last four years.
Logan, who will pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Youth Athletics and Recreation Management, signed his letter of commitment at Skyuka Hall’s gym on Wednesday morning.
