Carolyn Hixson Powell
Carolyn Hixson Powell beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and devoted member of Hixson United Methodist Church, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 23, 2025. She was a cherished member of her community and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles B. Powell, Sr., and her sisters, Edith Bean, Reba Sharpe, and Azile Lockhart.
Born and raised in Sequatchie County, Tn., she attended local schools before graduating from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a degree in Home Economics. Throughout her life, she was passionate about her family, quilting, and playing bridge, activities that brought her great joy and connection.
She is survived by her two sons, Charles B. Powell, Jr. (Shellie) of Brentwood, Tn., and Gary L. Powell (Jennifer) of Nolensville, Tn.. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Hope, Faith, Joy, Grace, Luke, Alexis, and Landon Powell, who were a constant source of pride and happiness.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 30, in the chapel, with interment to follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Her legacy of love, faith, and creativity will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
