The Town of Lookout Mountain will now be able to make essential upgrades to their Town Common area, Navarre Pavilion and surrounding public spaces. The improvements include trail repairs, playground resurfacing, restroom updates and safety enhancements to preserve important community gathering spaces - all thanks to a grant from Hamilton County’s Leaning Into Communities program.
An initiative introduced by County Mayor Weston Wamp, Lookout Mountain received one of the four Leaning Into Communities grants approved for funding by the county.
The grant matching program partners with small cities and towns to revitalize local parks, green spaces and community gathering spaces.
With support from County Commissioner Joe Graham, the town applied for the one-time 2:1 grant of up to $250,000 to assist with funding renovations and upgrades aimed at preserving the town’s parks and community spaces.
“Partnering with our small municipalities through this new grant matching program is an awesome way to get big things done,” said District 11 Commissioner Joe Graham, who represents the Lookout Mountain area. “It’s a great example of how Hamilton County can support meaningful projects that bring communities together.”
Walker Jones, mayor of Lookout Mountain, stated that these dollars will help with both deferred maintenance issues and the sprucing up of neglected areas with additional lighting and landscaping, especially around the Town Commons.
“This grant presents a great opportunity for our town,” said Mayor Jones. “It is very much appreciated, and so a big thank you to both County Mayor Wamp and the County Commissioners.”
