One Of First Women Hired To Drive Carta Bus

Myra D. “Babe” Roberson McCoy, 66, lifelong resident of Chattanooga, died Monday, March 17, 2003 at a local hospital.

Ms. McCoy was awarded the Million Mile Safe Driver Award while employed with U. S. Xpress and was one of the first women hired to drive for Carta Bus. She played women’s softball for WFLI radio station and Rebel Drive Inn and played in several women’s softball world championship tournaments.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas J. McCoy; daughters, Myra Lee Roberson, Harrison, Carmen M. Tallent, Chickamauga, Ga., and Stephanie C. Davis, East Brainerd; sons, Algie R. “Robby” Roberson, Naples, Fla., Michael Sydney Roberson, Chattanooga, and Thomas J. McCoy, Flintstone, Ga.; mother, Mary Lee Shinbaun, Tiftonia; brother, Sydney Marshall, Chattanooga; seven grandchildren; and several other family members.

Graveside services will be held at 12 noon Wednesday at Chattanooga Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at Lane Funeral Home, Coulter Chapel.
