Louise Pickering Werner, 85, died Tuesday evening, March 29, 2005, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Werner was an accomplished artist and pianist who taught art for many years and served as a pianist for several Methodist churches in Chattanooga. She had a keen mind, a sharp wit and a loving heart and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Mrs. Werner was the only daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. W.L. Pickering and grew up holding her own with her four brothers whom she loved dearly.
She graduated from high school in Kingsport, TN, and attended deaconess training school in Kansas City, MO. Before her retirement, she was the administrative assistant to the headmaster of Girls Preparatory School.
Mrs. Werner was for many years a member of First-Centenary United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School. At the time of her death, she was a member of Brooks Memorial United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school there as well.
Mrs. Werner was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Walter L. Pickering Jr., William H. Pickering, Frederick M. Pickering and Carroll L. "Jack" Pickering; and by her former husband, James W. Werner.
She is survived by her daughter, Diana Werner, of Pueblo, CO; her sisters-in-law; and by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Sunday, at 2:30 p.m., with the Rev. Amos Taj and the Rev. David Harr officiating.
Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist.
