Frank Orend, 86, died Tuesday morning, June 28, 2005, at Memorial Hospital.
He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
He was retired from the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce, and was a U.S. Army veteran serving in France, Germany and Czechoslovakia during World War II.
Frank was a native of Martins Ferry, OH. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael Orend. Frank was All State in football and baseball. He led the teams to Ohio State Championships earning MVP in both sports. He was recruited by Coach Scrappy Moore, and was Football All American at UC. He was voted into UTC’s Football Hall of Fame.
Frank received an A.B. degree from UC where he was a member of Blue Key, Who’s Who and Kappa Sig Fraternity. He continued his education with graduate studies at the University of North Carolina and University of Oklahoma.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Pfeifer Orend; brother, Michael Orend, Hemet, CA; two children, Marilyn Orend Oakes and Frank Joseph Orend; grandchildren, Sandy Oakes and husband, John Mitchum, Dr. Wendy Ann Oakes and Dr. Michael Oakes and wife, Mandy; and three great-grandchildren, Balie Harpeth Mitchum, Mahlon Crosby Mitchum and Jameson Lee Mitchum.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Friday, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m., both at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Father George Schmidt will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northside Neighborhood House or Catholic Charities.
