Dr. Roger D. Swanger, 54, of Chattanooga, died on Friday, Feb. 16, 2007.
Dr. Swanger was a graduate of Tyner High School and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he received a degree in biology. He then went on to receive a doctoral degree in dentistry from the University of Tennessee at Memphis, where he was a member of the Psi Omega dental fraternity.
Dr. Swanger was very involved over the years in his church and community. He was a member of the Brainerd Kiwanis Club and affiliated with the Chattanooga State Technical Community College dental program for several years. He served as a board member at Brainerd Baptist School, and he was a past president of the Rowewood Community Club.
He is survived by his children, Danielle Brooke Swanger and William Lee Swanger, of Chattanooga, Roger Dale “R.J.” Swanger Jr. and Chandler Blake Swanger, of Signal Mountain; his parents, Amon and Mary Swanger, of Chattanooga; three brothers, Michael (Billie) Swanger, Edward Swanger, of Chattanooga, and Dr. Russell (Jamy) Swanger, of Augusta, Ga.; nieces, Nicole Swanger, Jessica Swanger, Abby Swanger Rachel Swanger, of Chattanooga; and nephew, Logan Swanger, of Augusta.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the East Brainerd Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Norman Willie officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
His family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
