Funeral services will be in Chattanooga on Friday for a couple killed in an automobile accident in Clarksville, Tn., on Sunday morning.

William and Florence Hewitt died after an SUV crashed into their 1999 Dodge Caravan at the intersection of Edmondson Ferry Road and the 41A Bypass in Clarksville.

Mr. Hewitt, 75, and his wife of 53 years have four children, including two who live here.

Police said a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer broad sided the van. An initial investigation indicated the Hewitts failed to yield before crossing the intersection.

Mr. Hewitt attended Tennessee Temple College and graduated from the University of Chattanooga with degrees in accounting and secondary education.

He spent 20 years with the Air Force and was with Baptist Mission International.

After college, he was associated with Temple Baptist Church and Academy at Kokomo, Ind.

He afterward pastored a Baptist church in Hawaii for 14 years, then had a ministry to the military at Fort Stewart in Georgia and Fort Campbell in Clarksville.

The couple's four children are Gary, Greg and Mark Hewitt and Lesia Hewitt Bryant.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday at Memorial Baptist Tabernacle in Rossville.

Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a contribution be made to Baptist International Missions, Inc. (BIMI) 8614 Harrison Bay Road, Chattanooga, TN 37341 in memory of Florence and William Hewitt.

The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 E. Brainerd Road, and 11-12 noon on Friday at Memorial Baptist Tabernacle, 905 Hogan Road, Rossville.
