Sheila Jennings Recreation Center Offers Summer Camp For Kids

  • Tuesday, May 6, 2008

The Sheila Jennings Recreation Center serves families who live on the Westside. It is named after long-time community advocate Sheila Jennings, who is a former resident of College Hill Courts.

Facility Manager Fred Payne said some 35 youngsters ages five to 12 attend the center's after-school program where they do homework assignments and enjoy an array of recreational activities. The children are supervised and are served a snack as part of the program.

Mr. Payne added that the center will offer a summer camp for 60 children on the Westside that starts June 2.

Parents may register their children for the summer camp through the end of this month.

Partners for the Sheila Jennings center include Chattanooga's Parks and Recreation Department, the James A. Henry YMCA and the Chattanooga Housing Authority.
