El Meson has opened a new location in the old Target center at Northgate. The restaurant building is nice and has two rooms, one featuring a bar.

I know some people really love this place, while some do not. Remember, I always tell you, everyone does not like the same restaurants and/or food. If we did, it would be really boring.

For some reason, we are two of the people that can’t seem to have a really good experience when we go to El Meson. The service here was good, we had no problems with that, and everyone was very friendly.

They have a lot to choose from, and maybe we just made the wrong selection. We ordered the Jalisco Fajitas – chicken, steak, shrimp, and chorizo - $14.99 for a single; $25.99 for a double. We don’t mind paying $25.99 when it is substantial, but to me, substantial in regard to fajitas is a lot of meat. This was very little meat but a tremendous amount of onions, peppers and tomatoes – mostly onions – a LOT of onions.

The tortillas were fresh and the guacamole was good. In fact, in the back of the first room, they have a machine where they make the tortillas. Wayne thoroughly enjoyed the hotter salsa. The meat we did have, had a nice flavor and was quite juicy and moist. We would have enjoyed a bit more meat and a lot less onions and peppers. The refried beans were on par with other places, as was the rice.

Other items on the menu include soups, salads, burritos, enchiladas, chicken, seafood, vegetarian and many other listings. There are also house specialties which include Chilies Poblanos ($8.99), Tacos Al Pastor ($9.99) and the Mar y Tierra Platter for $21.99 featuring carne asada steak, pineapple chicken breast, chorizo sausage and large camarones al ojo de ajo, served in a large skillet with grilled onions and rice (uh, oh, wonder how many onions?). El Meson also has a dessert list.

Lunch menu prices are in effect Monday through Saturday from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM.. with prices ranging from $2.99 for a cup of soup to $8.99 for shrimp fajitas.

Hours for El Meson are Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday until 11 p.m.
