New United Missionary Baptist Has Several Health Events

  • Thursday, October 14, 2010

New United Missionary Baptist Church is offering a variety of health events in the coming weeks.

An event to celebrate breast cancer survivors will be held on Friday from 6-8 p.m. by New United Missionary Baptist Church Women’s Ministry, at 2629 Tunnel Blvd.

There will be a speaker, door prizes, food and health education. The event is sponsored by Volunteer State Health Plan and the MaryEllen Locher Breast Center.

The Memorial Hospital mobile mammogram unit will be at the church on Oct. 22 from 6-8 p.m. Call 495-4040 to schedule a test.

There will be hours of free fun, with a 10-minute asthma screening mixed in on Oct. 31 from 5-8 p.m. Games, treats, bicycle giveaways and more will be at the church. Undiagnosed asthma is a leading cause of child visits to emergency rooms. Bring a child to have fun and see if they have this treatable condition. Adults can get a free screening too.

The event is sponsored by Volunteer State Health Plan, T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital, and the Chattanooga Chapter of “Not One More Life.”

There will be a women’s health awareness and screening event, from 2-6 p.m. on Nov. 12 at Cromwell Hills Apartment community center. Screenings include mammograms (call 495-4040 to schedule test), blood pressure, glucose, BMI, lipid and more. There will also be education on breast and cervical cancer, diabetes and asthma. Volunteer State Health Plan, Memorial Hospital and the Hamilton County Housing Authority are the event sponsors.
