George W. Berry Sr., 91, died on Thursday, May 27, 2010.

He was born November 13, 1918 in Fayette County, Tn. He was the third son of the late Willie and Georgia Berry.

He was preceded in death by his wife Catherine, son, George W. Berry Jr.; three sisters, two brothers and one daughter, Florence Berry Griggs.

George resided in Chattanooga for more than 40 years. He retired from North American Royalty (Wheland Foundry) in 1966 after over 30 years service.

After retirement, he worked lawn and gardening on Lookout Mountain for the Gilman family.

He is survived by his daughter, Sara (Freeman) Sanford of Cincinnati, Oh.; sons, Rickey (Cassandra) Berry of Chattanooga; Napoleon (Barbara) Berry, Memphis, Tn.; George W. (Linda) Berry and Willie (Paula) Berry of Grand Junction, Tn., and Robert (Deb) Berry of Chicago; sisters, Lucy Conley of Eric, Pa.; Jessie (William) Payne of Cincinnati, Pa.; Mary (Versie) Dean of Cleveland; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be held at noon on Thursday, June 3, in the chapel of John P. Franklin Funeral Home with Rev. Emmitt Loftis officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.

The body will lie in state after noon on Wednesday, June 3, at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 622-9995.
