Allied Arts of Greater Chattanooga has been awarded $182,185 in grant funding from the Tennessee Arts Commission (TAC). TAC awarded four grants to Allied Arts including: Major Cultural Institutions (MCI) grant of $84,500, Student Ticket Subsidy grant of $60,125, Arts Build Communities grant of $27,560, and Arts Education: Teacher Training grant of $10,000.

“The Tennessee Arts Commission’s support is critical to the well being of Allied Arts and to the Chattanooga area community,” said Dan Bowers, president of Allied Arts. “These grants demonstrate the Tennessee Arts Commission’s strong support for arts and cultural programs in the Chattanooga area.”

Funded under an agreement with the TAC and the National Endowment for the Arts, the $84,500 MCI grant is designated for “general, non-project support to well-established Chattanooga arts organizations.”

“This grant is recognition of the highest level of quality programs and administration,” Mr. Bowers said.

With grant money provided by the Tennessee General Assembly, the $60,125 Student Ticket Subsidy grant provides funds to supplement ticket and transportation costs to enable students to attend cultural field trips or to invite performing groups and outreach programs to their schools. The TAC has designated Allied Arts as an agent to distribute Student Ticket Subsidy grants to public schools in the 10-county Southeast Development District, which includes Bledsoe, Bradley, Grundy, Hamilton, Marion, McMinn, Meigs, Polk, Rhea, and Sequatchie counties.

The objective of the $27,560 Arts Build Communities grant awarded to Allied Arts is to build communities by nurturing artists, arts organizations, and arts supporters. The award, funded by the Tennessee General Assembly and administered in cooperation with the TAC and Allied Arts, provides funds for a variety of quality arts projects.

Allied Arts received $10,000 for an Arts Education Teacher Training grant, which is awarded to arts organizations who provide outstanding professional development opportunities for educators in arts integration instruction techniques and curriculum planning. The grant funds will cover the expenses of three workshop leaders from the John F. Kennedy Performing Arts Center, who will guide teachers through intensive workshops and hands-on coaching that strengthen literacy instruction through the arts.

Allied Arts and the Hamilton County Department of Education are participants in the Partners in Education Program with the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. The Partners in Education Program supports the development of arts professional development workshops for classroom teachers.
