Today’s comments by Richard Beeland regarding the citizens of Chattanooga are a travesty. To claim that the actions of our citizens are grossly irresponsible is completely contradictory. The process of recall has already been set into motion - the Election Commission has acted and the wheels are in motion.
The Court of Appeals has made a firm judgment with regards to the issues that the mayor raised. The grossly irresponsible actions in this process has been the utter waste of time and taxpayer dollars that have been devoted to this issue by the mayor’s office. To waste time and money holding press conferences and discussing these issues with the national organizations exemplifies gross irresponsibility.
I am sorry that the mayor got recalled. I believe he is a nice man and has attempted to lead the city during difficult times. This being said, there is a process that has been created to recall him. That process occurred and he has to be reelected if he wants to hold his office. That is the end of the story.
Whining about the outcome and trying to figure out some method to delay such a process does not represent the kind of leadership we need. For Richard Beeland to say our citizens are irresponsible reflects very poorly on the city. The mayor is a position, not a man. Richard Beeland’s position ought not be to protect the reputation of Ron Littlefield, but instead should be to promote the city of Chattanooga. He has utterly failed the citizens of this city.
