Detectives with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division arrested a 20-year-old man on Thursday for a fatal shooting Wednesday evening that left one teenager dead. Myles Kensey Stout was charged with reckless homicide in the death of Jesse M. Compton.

According to an affidavit, Stout initially said the victim shot himself. After statements by others who were present, he "admitted to shooting the victim and stated that he thought the gun was unloaded."

Detectives said he put the weapon to the chest of the victim and fired.

The victim was dead at the scene inside the residence at 9125 Stoney Mountain Dr. His body was taken to the medical examiner's office.

Stout was transported to the Hamilton County Jail for booking and is under a $25,000 bond. The first court date is March 17 at 8:30 a.m.

The victim was a senior at East Hamilton High School. Students at the school had a memorial for him around the school flag pole on Thursday morning.

The shooting was reported at approximately 9:12 p.m. to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to 9125 Stony Mountain Dr. "to find a man deceased from a gunshot wound."

Stout at the jail gave his address as 328 Creekshire Dr., Signal Mountain.

The affidavit of complaint has him living at the address where the shooting occurred.

Stout was one of the students arrested in a brawl between McCallie and Signal Mountain High School students at Signal Mountain in April 2009.

He was a McCallie student at the time.
