Of the recent new restaurants we’ve visited, this is one of my favorites. The Rice Boxx is located at 3600 Hixson Pike in the Bi-Lo center.

Inside, this restaurant is very nice. Much more elegant than you might imagine from the outside. It isn’t fancy, mind you, but very nice. Booths are down one long wall, there is a sushi bar, as well as a few tables. The menu refers to the Rice Boxx as “A Fusion of The Freshest Asian Cuisine”, featuring Japanese, sushi, Chinese and Thai.
The menu is divided into many sections, including Chinese Wok Entrees, Hibachi Grill Entrees (served with homemade shrimp sauce), Noodles & Rice, etc. Of course, my favorite sections were the sushi choices. To make it easier, the rolls are shown as cooked, raw and fusion. Even appetizers are listed under hot and cold.

Wayne ordered the Hibachi Rice Boxx combo (steak, chicken and shrimp) priced at $10.99. This is the same meal he ordered at another restaurant, but $5 less here. The only difference is this one was not served with soup included, however we did order Hot ‘n Sour soup. We both enjoyed the soup, which was delicious and served with fresh, crisp noodles. I really dislike the soups that are served more congealed than soupy, and this one fit the bill.
Wayne thoroughly enjoyed his choice and said in comparison to the more expensive meal, there was no real difference that would warrant the higher price.

I ordered from the sushi menu, and believe me, it was a tough decision. They have the scallops, but not prepared in my favorite way. I did order one of the scallops, which were market price, in addition to the sweet shrimp (which I’ve really gotten hooked on). Market price was $3 each. I also ordered a Spicy Salmon Roll ($4.95) and a Spider Roll ($7.95). All were comparable to other sushi restaurants and we felt the quality was on par.

The only downside here was the timing. Wayne was served his plate while I continued to wait. He was finished eating before my sushi arrived. I would hate to find out how long I would have been waiting if they had been really busy!

The Rice Boxx offers a variety of soups, desserts, beverages (yes, I enjoyed their Thai Tea), and noodles. There is also a short sushi luncheon menu that includes soup and your choice of rolls.

We highly recommend this locally owned sushi restaurant and hope to visit it again soon.

The Rice Boxx is open seven days a week. Their hours are Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday until 11 p.m., and Sunday from noon until 10 p.m. Give them a visit.
