The Salvation Army phones are ringing off the hook with low-income neighbors requesting heaters for relief from the dangerous cold. Officials with the Re’Create Café, The Salvation Army’s Homeless Day Center, says they are in great need of blankets, coats, scarves, hats, gloves and tents for the homeless.
“The need is great and the resources are few,” said Major Algerome Newsome, area commander for The Salvation Army. “Our goal is to keep people safe and warm, to shield them from the frigid temperatures; that is why we need folks to step up and Be A Shield with us by donating.”
The Salvation Army Social Services Offices are also requesting monetary donations to help with high utility bills. Donations of heaters, blankets, gloves, scarves, hats, and tents or money are being accepted at The Salvation Army, 822 McCallie Ave. in Chattanooga and 435 Inman St. in Cleveland, Tn.
A $10 gift can help purchase a blanket, or scarf, gloves and hat for someone in need. A $20 donation can provide a small heater to provide supplemental heat for a low-income neighbor. A $100 donation can help offset high utility bills for a struggling family trying to make ends meet. Monetary donations can also be made online by visiting csarmy.org or by calling 800-Sal-Army.
