Evelyn Green Payne Nye, of Chattanooga, died at home on Wednesday, December 19, 2012.  She was 84.

Evelyn was born in Chattanooga on Dec. 21, 1927, to the late F. Harry and Irene Kidwill Green.  She worked for DuPont Corporation and drove a school bus for the Chattanooga School System for over 10 years.  Evelyn was a longtime member of Lake Hills Church of Christ. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Todd Nye, Sr.; and her sister, Katherine Walker.

Evelyn is survived by her sons, Billy (Beth) Nye, Finley Payne, Todd Nye, Jr. and Gene Nye; grandchildren, Karl, Samuel, Nathan, Jacob, Ben, Andy, Joshua, Collee, Malachi, Shea, Holly, Laura and Abbie; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday and 12-1:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24, at the North Chapel.

Services for Evelyn will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24, at the North Chapel with Minister Johnny Owens and Minister John Cupp officiating.  Burial will follow in National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest by her husband.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Evelyn’s name to the Forgotten Child Fund at 3300 Amincola Highway, Chattanooga, Tn. 37406. 

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
