Don C. Bowman, Sr. died on Friday, April 5, 2013.  

He was an insurance consultant for more that 35 years.  In the 1950s, Don was well known for his boxing success and was Lightweight Champion of the South in 1952, a contender for World Championship and named in Ring Magazines  “Top 10”.

He actively supported community through Golden Gloves and Boy's Clubs, acting in local theater and teaching Sunday School.  He was a member of Ridgedale Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Ann Bowman; sons, Don, Jr. and Jeff Bowman.

He is survived by daughters, Dr. Sandy McKenzie, Dianne Gilbert; son, Don Bowman III; and grandchildren, Brooke Hopkins, Andrew Gilbert, Jeffrey Bowman, Jackson Bowman, Kennedy Premachandra, and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Robert Bowman officiating. Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
