U.S. Army Veteran Held Lengthy Career With Chattanooga Gas Company

Kenneth Andrew Royse, 90, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025.

Born on June 10, 1934 in Chattanooga, he attended the public schools of Chattanooga and graduated from Chattanooga High School in 1952 and graduated from the University of Chattanooga (now the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga) in 1956 with a B.S. degree in business administration and a major in accounting.

Ken began employment with Chattanooga Gas Company in 1955 while attending college, working as a dispatcher, customer service representative and general accounting clerk. After graduation from college, he served a two-year tour of duty with the U.S. Army in Germany as a specialist in the Office of Intelligence.

Upon return from military service in 1958, he continued employment with Chattanooga Gas Company as a junior accountant and was named company auditor in 1962. He was promoted to assistant treasurer in 1967, assistant vice president and treasurer in 1974, vice president and treasurer in 1976, and was named president of the company in 1989.

He was a member of the Southern Gas Association, Southeastern Gas Association, the Tennessee Gas Association, Chattanooga Manufacturers Association, and Rotary Club of Chattanooga. Previously he served as Accounting Section Chairman of the Southern Gas Association, and president of Tennessee Gas Association. He also served on the board of directors of United Way and Pioneer Bank in Chattanooga.

His parents, Ezra and Vinnie Irene Royse, daughter, Regina Landry Holland and sisters, Betty Jenkins and Kathleen Hilliard preceded him in death.

Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Paulette Royse (formerly Paulette Gibson) from New Orleans, two sons, Chris (Melanie) and Alan Royse, 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m. on Friday, May 2, in the East Brainerd Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. A celebration of life will follow at 6 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Dale Lovelady officiating.
