Retired From DuPont After 35 Years; Very Active In Tennessee Girls Softball

William Fred "Fathead" Richardson 71, died on Thursday, May 16, 2013 in a local hospital.

He was retired from Dupont after 35 years of service; served the in the U.S. Air Force from 1959 to 1963; was the ASA TN State commissioner of Girls Softball for 23 years, ASA district commissioner of Girls Softball, was Junior Olympic commissioner of Girls Softball, and was recently inducted into the ASA Softball Hall of Fame for Tennessee; and was a member of Stanley Independent Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Judy McNabb Richardson, daughters, Karen (Doug) Rand, Vickie Hendrickson, Janet Hall; son, Bryan (Angela) Richardson; sisters, Polly Rogers and Saundra Cobble; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, several nephews and niece.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, in the Advantage Chapel with Pastor Shawn Meade officiating, Burial will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors. Honorary pallbearers will be the Dupont Nylons Men's Fast Pitch Softball Team.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 19, from 1-8 p.m. and Monday, May 20, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Advantage Funeral Cremation Services Franklin Strickland Pinkard Bryan Smith Funeral Directors, 1724 McCallie Ave. 423 265-4414, at the corner of McCallie Avenue and Hawthorne Street.
