Larry  Mack  Ownbey, 73, of Apison, died on Monday, December 15, 2014.

He was a  generous and caring person. He was the son of the late Robert Joseph, Sr. and Callie Jeanette Haynes Ownbey. He was a member of Apison Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Marine Corp and Marine Reserve.  He was the owner of Ownbey Sheet Metal Company.  Mr. Ownbey played in the Midwest Major Baseball League where he was a catcher for the Cincinnati Reds organization (Cedar Rapids).   

He also played in area church and industrial leagues slow pitch softball teams and he played on state champion teams. He was a member of the Apison Lion’s Club.

He is survived by loving wife of 49 years, Joyce Roberts Ownbey of Apison; two daughters, Lisa(Steve) Jensen of Ooltewah and Jennifer (Elvin) McNeill of Atlanta; four grandchildren, Matthew and David Jensen and Camden  and Scarlett McNeill; sister, Marilyn Long of Fort Oglethorpe, and brother, Jerry Ownbey of Apison; andseveral nieces and nephews.  

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 19, at 1 p.m. at East Brainerd Chapel with grandson, Matthew Jensen, Pastor Gordon Beitz and Pastor Wolf Jedamski officiating. Interment will be in Plowman Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends on Thursday, Dec. 18, from 4-7 p.m. at the East Brainerd Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
