World War II Army Veteran Retired From Combustion Engineering After 42 Years

Ernest Arnold Adams, 96, of Chattanooga, died on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at his home.

He was a member of St. Elmo Avenue Baptist Church for 60 years where he was a deacon and choir director.  He was currently a member of Westside Baptist Church.

He was a graduate of Central High School class of 1936 and served in World War II in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Lookout Valley OES for over 50 years.  He was retired from Combustion Engineering after 42 years.  He served as chaplain at the St. Elmo American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Della Bratten Adams; parents, John and Eva Pauline Schmissrauter Adams; sister, Margaret Lawrence; brothers, Clifton, Nelson and Tommy Adams.

Survivors include nieces and nephews, families of Adams, Brattens, Clarksons and Owens and friends of many years, Gloria Templin, Rex and Casey Rowland and Hitchcock Family and a special friend, Jack.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road, with the Reverend Don Givens officiating.  

Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.  

The family will receive friends from 3-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the funeral home.
