Richard W. Phelps, 88, of Cleveland, TN passed away on Monday, July 21, 2014 at his home.  

He was born May 17, 1926 in Bluefield, WV.   He served in the United States Army and was employed at National Electric Coil, Bluefield, WV and retired from Moran Electric Service, Indpls., IN in 1994.    He loved to fish and could repair almost anything that could be repaired. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Cleveland, TN. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Phelps; and his mother, Stella Phelps. 

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Reba (Morris) Phelps; his daughter, Beverly Bales and her husband, Mike; sons, Larry Phelps and wife Marlene and Rodney Phelps and wife Linda; six grandchildren, Matthew Bales, Amanda Pigatto, Ronnie Phelps, Caitlin Phelps, Cynthia Bryant and Jennifer Phelps; 11 great t-grandchildren, Mason Bales, Abigail, Benjamin and Maxwell Pigatto, Ephrum, Lyla and Xander Bryant; Nikola and Farraday Everhart and Hayden Phelps; his brother, Hugh Lee Phelps; sister, Effie Sesco; and numerous other extended family members and special friends. 

A celebration of his life is planned for Thursday morning, July 24 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Companion Funeral Home located at 2419 Georgetown Road NW in Cleveland, TN with the Reverend Tom Wickes officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens and will conclude with full military honors. 

The family will receive friends in the chapel one hour prior to the service on Thursday, July 24. 

Companion Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
