Police have charged Danetrius Tolliver after officers said he kicked in the back door of a residence near Lake Chickamauga and afterward discharged a gun.

Tolliver, 27, of 4814 Northwind Dr., is charged with aggravated burglary and possession of a prohibited weapon.

In the incident last Saturday, a couple reported that they were at their residence on Starboard Drive when they heard someone ringing the front doorbell. Then the back door was kicked in.

Brandon Baldwin, 29, said a person he knows as DJ entered the residence. He said DJ went back out after he grabbed a baseball bat and began chasing him. He said during the chase he heard a gun go off.

Tolliver wrecked his vehicle while leaving the scene, and he was taken into custody. A Smith & Wesson .40 caliber handgun was inside.

He told police he had gone to the residence to settle a dispute with Brandon Baldwin.

He said the gun accidentally went off when he tripped during the chase.
