Larry G “LB” Blackburn, 75, of Athens, Tennessee, passed away at home on Sunday, October 23, 2016.
He was born at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, and was a lifetime resident of Athens, TN.
He was the son of the late Hubert and Cloy Blackburn; and was also preceded in death by his only brother H.H. “Punk” Blackburn.
Larry was a member of Allen Memorial Church of Athens, TN, a lifetime member (46 years) of Athens Elks Lodge # 1927, and a member of Alhambra Shrine of Chattanooga for over 30 years. He was the retired owner of Blackburn Oil. An Avid Boater, he enjoyed long trips traveling by water and loved being a part of the Vol Navy for many years. Among his other hobbies he enjoyed drag racing, motorcycles, and shared a love for horses. He was the owner of Blackburn Stables.
Larry is survived by his wife Pat Wallace Blackburn; his daughter Shannon Blackburn Lambert and husband Tom Lambert of Athens; his step-son Brian D Sheely; step-daughters Kimberly Sheely Wade and Teresa Sheely Beck and her husband Jeffrey Beck all of Knoxville; one bother-in-law Bobby Wallace and wife Pat Atchley Wallace of Cleveland, TN; one sister-in-law Ruth Blackburn of Murfreesboro, TN; grandchildren Blake Lambert and wife Kelly of Englewood, TN, Trent Lambert and wife Samantha of Englewood, TN, Kylie Lambert Brown and husband Grant Brown of Riceville, TN; and step-grandchildren Nathan Wade and wife Kaitlyn Wade of Knoxville, TN, Rhiannon Sheely Burmeister and husband Kevin Burmeister of Cookeville, TN, Lauren Beck, Sydney Beck, Hayden Wade and Andrew Wampler all of Knoxville, TN.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28 at Allen Memorial church in Athens, TN, located at 800 Decatur Pike, to be immediately followed by a memorial service with Pastor Charla Sherbakoff officiating. A private burial will be held in Shelbyville, TN at Zion Hill Church.
Larry requested that memorial contributions be made to Allen Memorial United Methodist church in Athens, TN in lieu of flowers.
