From left, Lela Kate Sorrow, Evan Yim, Noah Cobb, Ashley Yim, Caroline Clark, Christopher Kim and Vivian Arnold receive their prizes for reciting the most digits of Pi from Bright School Math Academy instructor Diane Kemp
There was pizza pie for lunch, but the main attraction on Pi Day at Bright School was the long list of decimal digits that make up the infinite number that is used to find the circumference of a circle.
Students were challenged to memorize as many digits as possible, and there were winners in each grade. They received a certificate and a piece of pie.
The top boy winner was third grader Evan Yim, who recited 134 digits, and the top girl was his younger sister, Ashley Yim, a first grader who recited 61 digits. The siblings admitted to practicing together at home.
The grade winners were:
Kindergarten: Lela Kate Sorrow (19 digits)
First: Christopher Kim (81 digits)
Second: Vivian Arnold (23 digits)
Third: Evan Yim (134 digits)
Fourth: Noah Cobb (56 digits)
Fifth: Caroline Clark (28 digits)
