White, Verna DeSha

Verna DeSha White, 103, of Chattanooga, died on Sunday, March 20, 2016, at a local health care facility.

She was a charter member of Harmony Baptist Church. She dearly loved her church and family. She was also lovingly referred to by many as “Aunt Verna” or “Mamaw”.

She was born Jan. 30, 1913, and was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas DeSha and Ida Barger DeSha; her husband of 63 years, Charlie White; brothers, Elmer Steele and Ernest DeSha, and sister, Mary Chambers.

She is survived by her sons, Coleman (Tylene) White of Ooltewah; Tom (Sheila) White of Ringgold; four grandchildren, Bryan (Angie) White, Sheri (Randy) Downs, Michelle (Thomas) Wagoner and Tiffany (Michael) Langston; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Bertie Ruth Ramsey and Della Faye Dawson; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 23, at the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. or you may visit the online guestbook at www.turnerfamilyfuneralhome.com.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 24, at 11 a.m. at Harmony Baptist Church with Pastor Joey Harris officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of service. Interment will follow in the Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
