Safe Kids Dalton, which works under the direction of the Whitfield County Fire Department, had a car seat crushing to destroy seats that were either out of date or the wrong seats for kids that had been collected during seat check events or at check stations around the county and city.

There were 450 car seats crushed for a total of 2,763 pounds.

“I would like it to personally thank the Dalton-Whitfield Regional Solid Waste Management Authority for crushing the seats for us and Alpha Roll Off Dumpsters of Dalton for providing us with the dumpster and transporting the seats for us at no charge,” said Lt.

Chris West, Whitfield County Fire Department prevention coordinator and coalition coordinator of Safe Kids Dalton.
