Jovian Kyndiah
A teen has been arrested after his mother was found dead at their Ooltewah home early Saturday morning.
Jovian Kyndiah, 19, was charged with four counts of aggravated assault after firing at deputies during a lengthy standoff with sheriff officers.
At 12:35 a.m., a Hamilton County deputy responded to 4060 E. Freedom Circle just off Standifer Gap Road for the report of an unconscious person.
The deputy was met at the front door by Kyndiah, who was carrying a pistol. The teen ran out of the house, then got back inside.
The deputy said he could see the body of a female lying at the top of the stairs. She appeared to be lifeless.
Kyndiah, who repeatedly said he wanted to kill himself, said he had shot his mother accidentally.
Kyndiah barricaded himself in the home and the SWAT Team was called to the residence. Deputies said he was continually saying he wanted to kill himself.
During the long standoff, officers sprayed tear gas into the residence. They were attempting to break out a window and take out the blinds when Kyndiah fired at them. Kyndiah yelled, "Stop or I will shoot."
Officers Anthony Sylvester, Todd Cook, Steven Bredwell and James Usury then retreated.
Kyndiah finally surrendered at 6:06 a.m.
During a sweep of the house, it was found that the mother was dead due to a gunshot.
Deputies said it appeared the death was the result of suspicious, unusual or unnatural circumstances.
That shooting is still being investigated.
Kyndiah was evaluated by EMS afterward.
His bond was set at $800,000 - $200,000 per case.
